John Linton .......of Exetel's early 'existence'.
We continued to make slightly faster progress again last week in virtually every area of our business. Corporate data sales continued to prosper in these, the best 'corporate' sales weeks of each year. Another of our probationers reached the required ten sales to become a 'fully fledged' sales person in well under the allowed four month period and the third of the first six people we originally hired reached 100 sales in her first 2 years with Exetel. Corporate VoIP sales were also very high with the likelihood June sales of corporate VoIP services exceeding the record set in May if they continue at this week's rate. A new record day for corporate VoIP was achieved on Wednesday with five new customers signing up with Exetel.
Residential ADSL sales continued to improve with 30% of total residential ADSL customers now also using Exetel VoIP (up from a little less than 20% twelve months ago). Residential mobile phone sales have slowed from May's record levels but SMS and Fax usage continues strongly. Overall the first ten days of June are some 25% up on the same period last year which is pleasing and a little surprising.....but obviously in very good ways. We won't get too 'excited' about such a short period but it is nice to have one where everything goes exceptionally well every now and again.
We continue to make progress on the planning for FY2012 - which is just as well as there is less than three weeks to go before the new financial year gets under way. As with last year that is almost at its end almost all of our planned growth is via corporate and small business services. However, as the residential markets for ADSL services continue to 'tighten' we have been toying with some more radical ideas in presenting new residential ADSL options that go beyond what is currently on offer. One of those ideas is to have a 'reverse Telstra win back campaign". By that I mean offer Telstra Retail users a 'special offer' in the same way that Telstra Retail has been making "special offers" to Exetel's residential ADSL users.
Two of the "Telstra win back ideas" are to either offer three months free internet or to offer zero per month internet when the Telstra Retail customer also 'bundles' a telephone line with additional discount off the telephone line rental when the customer also 'bundles' a mobile phone service. This would produce something like an ADSL Including 10 gb + 10 gb, telephone line rental with low call charges and mobile phone capped plan for $39.50 a month......or all of that plus unlimited local, national and calls to Optus mobiles for $49.50 per month. There would be an option to just buy ADSL and telephone line rental with a range of gb inclusions on a twelve month contract with the first two, three or four months free.
We will use the long weekend to determine exactly what to do in this regard before we settle on what growth, if any, we will plan for residential ADSL over the coming months. Though I do have to say that after suffering from Telstra Retail's bully boy tactics for over two years I would like to play a small part in giving them 'a taste of their own medicine'.....but then I keep forgetting that Exetel is a commercial enterprise and must strictly adhere to commercial principles.....it just isn't as enjoyable.
