John Linton There appears to be something odd happening in 'ISP Land'. For some months Exetel has been 'pursued' by a (smaller than Exetel) publicly listed ISP who seems desperate to buy us and won't take our polite but firm "we aren't interested" communications as an emphatic "please stop bothering us". Even while I was on holidays I received text and email messages with another offer that "would meet all my requirements". We have now received communications from another ISP who wants to buy Exetel and expects us to provide them a lot of highly confidential information. Perhaps this is another indication that all is not well in ISP land with the uncertainties of the future direction of how internet services will be delivered (Fibre To The Node/Wireless/WiMAx/Mobile) and the intensifying "free install/free months" offers from Telstra/Optus/Uncle Tom Cobbley pressuring current and future margins even more tightly than I realise? I must find the time, and more importantly the ability and information sources, to try and work out what is going on.
